A new website for a modern Italian restaurant with a 15th century cave labyrinth beneath it.
The brief
Bar Gigi is a modern Italian restaurant on Flying Horse Walk in Nottingham, serving seasonal sharing-style dishes sourced from local and Italian producers. Beneath the restaurant sits Cantine Dell’Angelo, a 15th century cave labyrinth discovered and excavated by the owner, now used as a wine cellar and private hire space. The existing site wasn’t communicating the quality or uniqueness of the offer, and bookings needed to improve.
The thinking
We redesigned and built the website around two priorities: making it easy to book, and giving visitors a clear sense of what makes Bar Gigi different. A set of custom illustrations was developed to run throughout the site, giving the brand a distinctive visual character that works alongside the food photography rather than competing with it. The caves, the menus, the events programme and the private hire offering all needed their own space within a structure that still felt simple to navigate.
The outcome
Bookings have increased and the restaurant is regularly fully booked. The website now communicates the full breadth of the offer, from the dining room to the caves, and the custom illustrations have become a recognisable part of how Bar Gigi presents itself.
