The brief
Nottingham Trent University’s Fashion Management, Marketing and Communication department was relocating from a period Edwardian building to the Barnes Wallis building, a more modern space built in the seventies. The new environment needed its own identity, one that would represent the department’s creative reputation and give students a space they felt connected to.
The thinking
We developed a full brand identity including colourways, typography and visual language, then applied it across environmental graphics, wayfinding and signage concepts. The work was designed to provide a complete direction that the university’s interior design team could develop further and bring to life within the physical space. What made the project distinctive was the quality of the collaboration. The lecturers had creative backgrounds and understood design language, which meant feedback was precise and informed. When we presented three concepts, they could articulate not just which one they preferred, but why.
The outcome
The store became a significant commercial channel for the artists involved — enabling sales that extended the festival well beyond its eleven days at Somerset House. The annual rebuilds demonstrated something more valuable than any single project could: that Stylistic could absorb a completely new creative direction and deliver something that felt considered and complete, year after year, to deadline.
